ALYCE DAUBENSPECK is a classically-trained mezzo-soprano whose public performances have been described as "emotionally shattering" with a voice "fully formed from top to bottom, a pristine tone, and high notes that are both extraordinarily controlled and on the edge of wildness." 

Alyce is a young dramatic force to be reckoned with. Her voluptuous mezzo sound has been described as “emotionally shattering,”  with its “pristine tone” that embodies high notes that are both “extraordinarily controlled and on the edge of wildness.” Her vulnerability as a dramatic actress has been moving audiences for the last 5 years, with roles such as AUGUSTA TABOR in Douglas Moore’s The BALLAD OF BABY DOE, the OLD PRIORESS in Poulenc’s DIALOGUES des CARMELITES, LYUBOV from TCHAIKOVSKY’S MAZEPPA, and ANITA in LA NAVARRAISE by Massenet.

In addition to her keen sense of drama, and propensity for big, complex characters, Alyce has also enjoyed a performance career sharing her wicked sense of humor both on and offstage. Her portrayals of THE WITCH from HÄNSEL UND GRETEL, TISBE in Rossini’s LA CENERENTOLA, MARCELLINA from LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, BERTA from IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA, ARMELINDE in CENDRILLON, and Julia Child in LEE HOIBY’s one act opera “BON APPETIT!” have met with great acclaim.

A passionate recitalist, Alyce has enraptured audiences with her soulful interpretations of “THE WESENDONCK LIEDER” by WAGNER, and symphonic works by SIBELIUS. She adores the work of Johannes BRAHMS, and had the great pleasure of singing the solo in his ALTO RHAPSODY as a guest artist with the Moravian College singers. She has brought her talents to the MOZART Missa Brevis, BEETHOVEN’S Mass in C and Ninth Symphony, Mozart’s final composition, REQUIEM in D Minor. She is excited to currently be preparing another famous requiem - the mezzo-soprano solos in VERDI’S REQUIEM.

Alyce has also notably placed first in the Metropolitan Opera National Council District Auditions in South Carolina in 2019, and was also selected as the winner of The American Prize in Vocal Performance—The Friedrich & Virginia Schorr Memorial Awards in 2019. Alyce’s soloist debut at Carnegie Hall is March 17th, 2024, when she will perform G.B. Martini’s Domine ad Adjuvandum me Festina.

Alyce has also found her footing as a dynamic teacher through her work as adjunct voice faculty at DESALES UNIVERSITY in Pennsylvania since 2019, and through her work with many studios through the NJ-NY-PA region. She possesses a keen ability to educate, empower, and inspire her students which has helped to make her a much sought-after teacher. 

Alyce began life as a singer, but her many interests and love of the outdoors helped to lead her to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies in 2014 from Ithaca College, with a minor in music. She spent four months studying in Brazil as part of her environmental research, where she learned the Portuguese language, and discovered her abiding love of bossa nova and samba music. After her undergraduate work, she solidified her musical training at Westminster Choir College, after graduating with distinction in 2018 with a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy. Today, she continues to explore and deepen her artistry from her new home base of Paramus, New Jersey. She is managed by Jim Harwood, of Harwood Management in NYC.
